My Story

I’m an avid hobbyist photographer, and I’m happiest outdoors. My camera has traveled with me from the waters off Long Island to the plains of Tanzania, the mountain gorillas of Rwanda, the wilds of South Africa, Patagonia, Australia and Japan, with stops in the Caribbean, the Swiss Alps and the American West along the way.

My favorite subjects are action on the water and big landscapes: a marlin clearing the surface, a whale throwing its tail, first light on a quiet river. I rarely pose people. I’d rather catch the moment as it happens.

About Optic Safari

While building this site, I asked myself why I wanted to share these images at all. They’re personal photographs from my travels and time outdoors, taken by a private individual. Working through them made something clear to me: photography is how I practice living in the moment.

Life brings plenty of challenges, and it’s easy to miss how beautiful the world and the people in it truly are. If I could live my life over, I wouldn’t change a thing. I would only appreciate each moment more. Not the past, not the future, but right now.

I think of photography as storytelling without words, where light, color and perspective carry an event or a feeling.

My hope is simple: look into each image and find whatever enriches your soul.

Anyone who knows me knows how much I value laughter, with friends, acquaintances and complete strangers. Laughter feeds the soul. Negativity does the opposite. It’s more than a toxic emotion; it’s a thief of fulfillment and joy. If this portfolio adds a little warmth to your day and reminds you that life is shorter than we think, it has done its job.

Please enjoy the galleries, and think about what each moment was meant to express.

In Memory of Mr. Bean

I dedicate this site to the memory of a dear friend we lost to ALS. He was the epitome of someone who loved a good laugh, great travel and family, and he lived every day with integrity. We traveled together often, and all my memories of those trips are full of laughter and joy. I miss him very much, but as long as I keep his memory alive, he’ll always be with me. I was fortunate to call him a friend, and I’m proud to honor an exceptional human being whose life was filled with Life, Love and Laughter.

To my friend Mr. Bean: each time a coin drops, I think of you. When it rains and I reach for my raincoat, I remember the wind tearing it away as a lightning storm closed in around us. On every sunset catamaran cruise, I’ll still save room for you. When the wind blows, when lightning strikes, when coins fall, and most of all when people laugh, I’ll think of your kind heart, big smile and jolly laugh.
